Had the same issue. Found this post by Cyberfrog:

Apparently the GOG version saves the files in a folder that is slightly differently named than what New Frontier expects. Renaming My Documents/Telltale Games/The Walking Dead Season 2 to My Documents/Telltale Games/The Walking Dead Season Two fixed the issue for me.

Might want make a copy of the original folder, though, if you are not comfortable enough with it. Just in case you do something that will cost you your saves.
So the difference is just in the number and word "2"? You`d think they`d fix that asap.

thanks, this worked for me. cant believe this really easy to fix error still persists. not really impressed so far just from the borked intro and the glaring in your face link for community hub b.s. well, onward thru the fog, hope the story saves the day
Thanks. Renaming "C:\Users\<yourname>\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season 2" to "C:\Users\<yourname>\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead Season Two" helped.
No "Telltale Account" no nothing required nor wanted.
The first thing this game (like many others) does is phone home. Thank god for personal firewalls.

This fix isn't working for me for some reason, still not showing any other option except to recreate the backstory.

same problem, i have both folders Season 2 and Season Two, i got the steam version of season 2, if i start it my safe game is "Episode 5" completed
I ended up recreating the story the best I could since even Teltale support couldn't help me. Not impressed with this season, too many bugs that still aren't fixed. I heard that recent Telltale Games suffered from their fair share of bugs, judging from this game I think I'll give the Batman games a miss.

...so the saves are incompatible with each other?

I have the first two seasons as retail box copies but since TellTales stopped producing box copies(and I didn't expect they would stop after season 2 on physical media....), I have to grab season 3 - a new frontier and finally the last season, (unless Michonne is apart of the story somehow?) as digital copies....

...so I won't be able to import either saves from season 1 and 2 of my box copy to season 3 and 4 and maybe Michonne if that is related somehow if I were to get the remaining series here on GOG? Perhaps I should buy direct from the official website instead for 100% compatibility of saves?
