The Steam-Version of Technomancer doesn't run on systems with more than 8 CPU cores. Is this problem also persistant in the GOG-Version of the game?

Yup; stuck at loading on a Ryzen 3900X system.
Thanks Ronakor for the info.

Yeah I kind of figured that would be the case. I mean on steam people were complaining about this issue for over a year and the dev/publisher just didn't even attempt to patch it. I would have re-bought it here if it worked but I wasn't going to until someone verified it worked on a high core system.

GoG if you are watching you should change the specs to "requires 4cores/8 threads or LESS CPU to function".
Honestly while i want to support GoG and its cause, incidents like this really frustrate me. Its not the money spend, its not the possible missinformation, its time wasted on a product that even its developers have declared dead...

16 core cpu here, absolutely no way to run game without using third party apps that gimp my system.

I am not tring to be insulting, but the bolded statement in the quote above, is not entirely accurate.

I have an AMD Ryzen 5 1600X (Hex core) CPU. 6 cores/12 threads and the game runs fine as is (no third party apps).

That said; I have heard that The Technomancer does not react well with 8+ core CPU's

Nice to know, I have a Threadripper so far so bad ;-)

But you all right, that these requirments should be mentioned. GOG should use their community to establish a Warning-Sign, before you can buy the game. I will inform the support anyway.
I also have recently moved to Ryzen 9 3900x.
And the game freezes on the "loading" text.
But you can actually fix the game still.
PC Gaming Wiki to the rescue: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Technomancer

Here's the bit:

"Issues fixed •

Infinite loading screen upon the game start up •

On a system with more than 4 cores enabled user needs to disable the extra cores
Open start menu
Type 'msconfig' and start the System Configuration tool that shows in the search
Click on the 'Boot' tab
Click on the 'Advanced Options' button on the middle left of the window, a new window should popup
Tick the 'Number of processors:' option at the top left of the window
From the dropdown list choose 4 as the maximum enabled cores
Press 'OK' and then 'Apply'
You will be presented with a possibility of rebooting the system. Reboot the system.
After reboot verify you have only 4 cores enabled"

I tried it and it works. Just need to remember to activate the rest of the cores when finished with playing.
Not a perfect solution for sure, and come on devs get a grip... But at least it makes the game work.

Thank you for this, it worked!
I found another way via Ryzen Master. Just launch the software and select the "Game Mode" preset. After a reboot it will deactivate CCD1, which means it leaves only 6 cores for the 3900x and the game can run.
I have a 3900x
and i set 8 cores in msconfig
the game works now
I haven't played the game yet, but I had this issues years ago with a game, that wouldn't run on multicore PC. You can limit a program from the task manager without having to mess with MSconfig and rebooting:

Task manager->Details->RMB->Set affinity->Select how much and which cpus the app is allowed to use

I hope this workaround helps.
It does work with 8c/16t (I have a 5800X), tho apparently not with 12 cores.

You can try Process Lasso (free) to set the game's core affinity. Tho I haven't personally tested if that actually works with this game, it did help me with Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

The advantage over setting this in Process Lasso rather than Task Manager is that PL sets core affinity persistently, in Task Manager you have to set it every time you launch the game AFAIK.

Tested December 2021. Process Lasso didn't work for me, neither did setting the affinity in Task Manager, nor customizing a shortcut. The only method that worked is MSCONFIG (set to 8 cores and it still worked, but not more), which is a hassle.

Elsewhere, it was said that Steam forces all cores to be used, so perhaps the GoG version might work with the other methods. Strange that this is the only Spiders game that presents this problem. Greedfall worked just fine (well, it has issues with mods and the DLC, but that's another topic).
