how can I get this (this being Settlers 3: Ultimate Collection) not to display in fullscreen by default? it's driving me insane.

As I had asked this before, there's not really a way. If Windows had a virtual desktop/virtual screens, it wouldn't be a problem.

Unfortunately, youu know the history Microsoft has with logical decisions.

Try using DXWND. I tried it for other games and it worked.

alobby comes with a launcher that lets you select windowed mode
