Quick question to the fans. I am quite fond of Settlers 2. I want to play Settlers III, but I can see that it's pretty much the same as IV. So, which one should I get.... the 3rd, or the 4th?

Explanations would be nice :)

Go three then four. Be warned, they are WAY different. I love them all but they are a big step away from #2. Some folks will argue for the better, some for the worse, I say "Who cares!? They're all great games!".

EDIT, just noticed the explanation bit.

Three and four are quite similar. Four has slightly better graphics and a few more races to use and I personally didn't think the religion aspect was as vital. It's there but I didn't feel it was essential to beat certain scenarios unlike #3 which in some cases can kill you without using priests. I say go three first because I found the campaign a little easier to navigate and it is a little more hands on helping you with the changes from #2 to #3,#4 of which there are many.

Ultimately you will want all of them, that much I can promise you.

And can you tell me anything about the later Settlers titles? V, VI, VII... are they worth the cash?

I will go with III and IV as soon as there's a sale ;)

I can tell you about "The Settlers: Heritage of Kings" which in on GOG. It is a great game but it IS NOT a Settlers game. While it is a RTS it looks totally different, plays different, different everything. If anything it's closer to AOE 2 but even that might be a stretch. As for the others ask around. I haven't played them but there are some hardcore Settlers players around here that can tell you everything about them.

Oh when you say you played Settlers 2 did you mean the original #2 or the #2 Anniversary? They have the same basic missions but the graphics overhaul make both of them worth the price.

I played the original Settlers 2. I was thinking about the overhaul, but ultimately went with the known option.
