I believe it's Roman IV, but I can't seem to get past this mission in the campaign and it's killing me.

Here's what I know:
-There are enough minerals on the mountain to my right to get me through the mission.
-There is a large stone reserve on the little bit of land to the southwest of my settlement

I don't know if I'm trying to build too much at once, but it doesn't seem to matter what I do... I can't outrace both of the civilizations since the egyptians to the northeast just come in and take a tower or two and the the pirates (or whoever is top left) take the rest.

The problem with racing to block out the pirates is that there is a huge mountain pass between me and the peninsula, which makes it impossible for me to do it without a large number of pioneers (and by then I'm probably dead on the other front from the egyptians).

Any tips on this would be helpful.

The game comes with its own hint book to the missions.

Browse to where Settlers 3 is installed and find the "Solution" folder and click on "index.htm". Click on Settlers 3 in the centre, then Romans, then the forth mission.

The hints should hopefully help you out a bit.

Try making about 2 Guard Towers are the edge of your territory then make a Stone Cutter, Two Wood Cutters, Sawmill and Forester.

Capturing the mountion is the key or half of it atleast.
Hey I had similar issues with this missoo, had to restart it a few times due to them attacking me before I was able to get any new soldiers.
My advice:
Play defensively, if you attack an enemies base the other will attack you, or your base perimeter meets theirs they will attack you, your starting units aren't strong enough to survive an attack from either of them.

Build 4 large guard towers near your smelting/weapons/barracks, if the enemy attacks pull your troops past them to reduce their numbers before engaging.

At the start you want 3 wood cutters, sawmill and forester, stone cutter, guard tower to the west to get 3 more stone cutters, 3 more wood cutters and a sawmill+forester north of your base to clear the area for large watch towers.

Use the priority to ensure your weapons production starts as soon as possible.

If you build too many wine places or small temples they will also attack regardless if theyre finished being built. I found one to start with was fine and then built more when I got to the clearing to the north but only go north to the clearing once they have initially attacked you.

Attack the Egyptians first as they have too many trees in their area to build additional housing giving you a massive amount of weapons when taking their second watch tower., This gives you extra troops to take out the rebels.

If you're ever under 20 carriers build a residence. If you run out of stone expand to the south west in the late game.
