Gold version is so much better, for a start the graphics are much better than the large, blocky blocks the other version has, also the maps are massive in the 10th edition.. was to big and becomes a bit of a chore/slog overall i found it a bit boring compared to the original.

There is a balance mod on ModDB. Which makes some buildings and all carriers faster. Maps are not bigger.

You had a feeling that the game was slower, because farmers and fischermen weren't that effective as in S2 Original. The trick was to spam fisherman's huts and farms.

For the S2 Gold Edition I recommend the Mod "Return to the Roots". It allows you to play multiplayer, and does not skip frames on faster game-speeds
