I have totally forgotten, is there a way to upgrade soldiers in S4? By that I mean the ones you already have; I know how to produce better soldiers.

nope, once they leave the barracks the level is final. maybe there's a spell that can upgrade them? i dont know acutally.

I can't believe the troubles I'm having here. I played this game a little over a year ago but the last few months I've been playing A LOT S2 and man the differences are killing me! :P I keep trying to do stuff from #2 and wondering why it isn't working.

i think it has been over 10 years now that i last played settlers 2, so i never had problems adjusting to the newer settler games. when i was a kid i played it a lot though.

Well, though there normally isn't, the mayans have an upgrade spell.
