Annoyed with me yet?

I get how to transform settlers into pioneers, get them onto the boats, get them over to the island, and then turn them back into settlers but all of a sudden when I do that they all turn back into carriers. I have 20 of the little bastard just standing there and no matter what I do to change the ratios ALL they turn into carriers. HUH!?

To get them to be builders or diggers they need hammers and spades.

Seems you like this game :D

I like this game much in the same way a junkie likes shooting up. :P

BTW I have a whole pile of tools and materials that I brought over prior to even bringing the pioneers over, and they still all just turn into carriers. But thanks. The problem must be something I'm overlooking.

Hhhmmm so when you go to build something nothing happens? Starting a new settlement was always finicky in Settlers. Usually, you'd need pioneers to capture an area, deposit some wood planks, stones, spades and hammers in the new area, turn the pioneers back into settlers. I THINK that's how it goes. I'll have to see how it works again. I'll try it later if you don't already figure it out by then.

I don't know if that is the solution but I am in awe of your going out of your way like this to help me with this silly game. I think a lesser man would have told me to piss off and go play Doom. :P I found a hint page that said this mission (Rome 5 The Race) can be pretty easily won without even using pioneers. I'll see.

I just beat the level. I think I may have been confusing my settlers by dumping EVERYTHING on the island rather than just tools, let's hope to god that was it because M6 is an obvious repeat of M7. :(

Thanks again so much, alas I seriously doubt this will be the last time I will be posting in here. :P

Well I managed to start another settlement by boat on the second Roman mission. They didn't start until I had about 13 settlers there, then they decided they'd pick up a hammer. Make sure the boat isn't dumping the tools out of reach.

That picture is actually kind of funny. I hope it wasn't too big of a pain.

So long as I keep it simple and drop JUST what I need at that second then I'm okay. Just 4 or 5 shovels and hammers. I've also noticed that patience helps. When you start to build only ONE settler will move and do the leveling possibly making you think the other's aren't in line, but as soon as the foundation is set a couple builders should show up.
have you ever tried to adjust the percentage of the builders/carriers? the option can be changed independently from other settlements iirc.

Countless times. :D I've noticed when everything works the percentage just changes the amount of each not if you actually get one of each or not. I'm at the point where as long as I get just ONE builder I'm a happy guy.

Good suggestion though. Wonder why it hasn't been mentioned before; a real hardcore player probably uses that option constantly.

yes ... i do, thats why i mentioned it ;-) it gives you a huge advantage in early custom games.

I'm totally loving it and spend 6 to 7 hours a day on it, HOWEVER I have my hands full just winning Rome on easy so hardcore I'm not. :P
