Hi, all.
Just started playing Settlers II: Gold. I was a massive Settlers I fan on Amiga, so it's like going back to an old favourite and discovering a load of new features - brilliant!
However, I've hit a snag and I'd appreciate some advice. I'm doing a free play, and I've expanded a lot but now I've run out of troops. I've got swords & shields available in the castle, but no spare troops. How do I make some of my spare people become soldiers?
Any advice would be brilliant - thanks!

In addition to swords and shields, you need some beer too.
Extra farm + well -> brewery -> beer for soldiers.
1 sword + 1 shield + 1 cask of beer = 1 new soldier
