This is an summary from another thread which i drop here FYI (for people who may be interested to buy & run this game in linux (& may have stumbled as i did on this review which might make you consider to not buy this game).

before i qoute the review from user "dreistadt" please kindly keep in mind:
- i hope dreistadt doesn´t mind that i quote her/him - if so just tell me & then i will adjust my post
- this thread is NO critics at all to this very review - to me it was a helpful hint which i further researched for, because of my interest in buying the game. Therefore i appreciate it.

Ok, here is the review:

"You have to have the steam client running in the background in order for this game to start. Could be different if steam is not installed at all, but at least if it is installed make sure it runs.
And yes, I'm talking about the gog version. ;)

Stalls forever with the message "[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; create pipe failed." when Steam is not running."

*****************

I wrote an email (contact@skookum-arts.com) & Dev (Jed from Skookum Arts) did test and also answered promptly:

"Thanks for getting in touch. I just now tested the GOG build with Steam completely closed and then opened and it booted both times. I’m running Ubuntu 18.04, so perhaps different versions or distros might have problems. If you’d like, you can get it and if you have trouble, you can refund it with GOGs new refund policy."

To sum this up: to me it seems that this error is not common (at least under certain circumstances) for linux.

With the new refund policy i think its a fair suggestion to buy the game. :-)

If you buy and play the game (linux or else): enjoy. :-)

You are also welcome to drop a note on how you experience was as you played the game in linux. :-)

Hey,

Thanks. I'm using Linux Mint 19.3 "Tricia" and the game runs completely fine without Steam (Doesn't matter if Steam is or isn't installed).

No problem running The Pedestrian without Steam. It is not even installed on this system.

It seems to run perfectly so far. I used ./play.it to install it on my Debian Sid, but this is of course not required.
