Hi,

Have the original 4 CDs but unfortunately they won't play on either of my laptops due to not supporting directx when I try to load the game.

If I was to get this version from GOG would it play on either

Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 2
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Duel CPU T3200@2.00GHz 2.00GHz
1.00GB memory
32 bit

or

Windows 7 Home Premium
Service Pack 1
Pentium(R) Dual Core CPU T4500@2.30GHz 2.30GHz
3.00GB memory
64 bit

(not sure what other details may be needed or how to get them)

I've played the cd version on Vista with little or no problem, if I remember correctly, so it's a surprise that you are unable to get it working; sometimes it's reliant on absolute contingency due to the infinitesimal nature of such problems. I recently played the gog on Windows 7 64-bit without tinkering a single thing. Which ever system is more comfortable for you really.

The cd's run on 98 The dvd rom was put out for newer systems. I threw the cd's out. the gog version runs fine.
