I noticed that TLJ was rating M for Strong Language. I'm just looking for more details on the rating.

Is there constant swearing or was the rating board being overly sensitive that day?

No, there's no constant swearing in the game. I'd guess it was rated that way for adult and drug-related phrases. Though rare, these are nonetheless present in the game.

If you're thinking of getting The Longest Journey for a young player, I think it's worth mentioning that there is a sexual element (comments etc.) here and there.

Nowhere near constant, but there are a few minor characters that have a tendency to drop f-bombs.
