Hi, when I play The Longest Journey on win xp, throughout gameplay the screen is freezing for a bit then continues, freezing for a bit more then continuing again... and this is happening non-stop. Making it pretty much impossible to play.

Is there anything I can do to be able to play the game smoothly?

Thanks

Make sure you have the latest GPU & system drivers installed.
I played TLJ with Anti-aliasing enabled through the Nvidia control panel. It did gave me occasional hiccups you described, but nothing game-braking... until the very last level where it was simply unplayable, so I had to disable it.

You can start by checking settings you have changed in the driver's control panel. If nothing there then try disabling 3D acceleration in the Options dialog window that appears when you launch the game.
