Have the issues with the original THE GUILD been fixed yet. It's been a while since I've played it on GOG but last time the frame rate was slow when text was on the screen in one version, and in the other certain screens were invisible like in the inventory section. Have these issues been resolved?
I'd like to know too!
It still doesn't run smooth with the stock-installtion. At least for me with a Windows 10 System. Starting up the normal guild.exe ended up in a laggy game experience and stating the game with the t&l.exe caused the common graphic bug in which 5% of the screen is missing.

But just today I finally found a workaround back in the steam community that actually works for me. It seems I'm not allowed to post a direct link on here..., but here is the URL-ending: steamcommunity.com/app/39520/discussions/0/1290691937718270447/

Look at the post from "tastingtheweb" on August 27th. I followed his instructions and it works. You need to download a .dll file and copy it to the game directory. With that done I can now use the normal guild.exe and it runs just as smooth as back in the days with my old Win XP Setup. On first startup I only had a bug with the intro (it didn't show up at all), but don't let that irritate you. The rest of the game works like charm. No other graphic bugs at all.

Edit: You can disable the intro by changing a value in the game.ini.

Hope I could help.

Your post indeed help me! You are the real MVP. Thank goldbergjr. and that guy on Steam.
I have flicker and tearing in nonT&L exe so cannot play, T&L I can run but it lost some graphic elements on right side. Same bug with many people, I believe.
I went pass that Steam post long ago, and tried a lot messing around with DX 8 on Win 7 64 bit to have the T&L version run. And didn't sucess at all.
At that time the post you mentioned wasn't there. But now I can run nonT&L versions. So nice!!!

On a side note: you may not need to download the beta version of that project, use the stable version below it, with that, video can run fine, I use that because I want to see the outro in game. If you dont want to see the outro when you complete a mission then just chose free game, disable the intro and you are good to go.
Long live The Guild!

PS: still looking for fix for the T&L version. I cannot install DX8 on win 7.
I can get this to work (following those instructions) with the non-T&L version - but the mouse is still laggy as hell, and the game itself lags as well (especially in Nuremberg).

The T&L version works better, except of course that parts of some screens are cut off. I've found this effect isn't as bad if setting the resolution to 1024x768 as opposed to a higher one; however the issue is still there. I haven't actually tried to play a game lately though, so I expect there will be information and icons that will be obscured by this, as per usual (so probably not really playable unfortunately).

Wish someone would make a Flawless Widescreen mod for this (or equivalent).
Can you try this hint? It helped me and solved the low framerate:

Only noticed this just then for some reason. Tried it out on Nuremberg, and it's definitely an improvement in terms of frame rate.

It's a shame there's no way to get the TL version to work properly, since that looks nicer (when not glitchy anyway).

Does that fix still work? Just coming back to this after a long while away from PC games.
I tried to post my solution into the main forum, but a technical error doesn't allow me to create posts - only comments.

Here's my solution to the problem, that works great.

Since the .dll solution from this forum didn't work on Guild Gold in my case, I want to share a solution that works out. Maybe in case of scrolling screens (e.g. goods I produce, or employees I want to click on the right side), it's maybe still a little bit slower than normal, but it's an incredible improvement, considering I couldn't play the game appropriately, before.

Download the current version of the dgVoodoo2 compiler (I'm not allowed to post any links, dunno why, but you'll find it on the web, for sure!

The FAQ doesn't seem to be complete, since they just tell you which files to copy in the game directory. However, in instructions for other games I read that, besides the files mentioned in FAQ, you need to copy the application in the game directory and run it while you play the game.
Play a bit around with the settings (solution, video card that is emulated, etc.), and run the game.
It didn't work in my case with the default settings, but it worked with some changes, and I think it only took me one or two attempts.

Enjoy the game!
