Just got this and noticed the manual says there's a tutorial under single player, but all I see is Load and Start New Game. Am I missing something or is one of the scenarios a tutorial?
Likewise....very skimpy manual too I must say.
Nope, you're not missing it, there's no tutorial or main campaing since The Guild 2, Reinaissance doesn't have any of this. My recommendation, look into youtube for tutoriales, and, after you got the basic, play, play, play.

Had my first game as Rogue some days ago, got murdered by guards while being an outlaw.
Yesterday, I got 90,000 coins of gold after kidnaping a member of a rich dinasty, while I was at the Town Hall being proclamated bishop by the grace of God and my wife was healing my whole gang at the hospital she owns after they got hurted while killing the last bishop that was on the way to the town hall.

From now on I suppose my character will spread supreme justice with the god 's hammer, or at least, some kind of justice.
Man, this game is just too epic.

Thanks!

I guess I should just get Vanilla Guild 2. I heard that one has a tutorial and I'm guessing it will get me going more than I've managed to get just clicking around.
This is really ridiculous. I have no clue what is going on and clicking actions on people/buildings usually does nothing. How is it "stand alone" if they don't bother to include the tutorial, assuming that everyone has played the original game.
It's hard as hell to find a good Let's Play on YouTube as well.

I suggest you guys purchase Guild 2 the next sale and/or find a text based guide as that might exist.

HOW TO UNLOCK THE TUTORIAL:

I was diving in Guild 2 Renaissance folders and I discovered that there are some Tutorial files.
Later I went to the installation I have of Guild 2 Pirates of the European Seas which also includes the Tutorial, but in this case it is playable.

After comparing between files from both installations, I've found the exact file that lets you play the Tutorial in Renaissance.
You must go to the folder: Gog games/The guild 2 - Renaissence/GUI/Menu and replace the file "singleplayermenu.gui" with the file "singleplayermenu.gui" from the game Guild 2 or Guild 2 Pirates.
I'm not sure if it is allowed to upload this small file so I'm not going to. So you should find it by your own.

However there is a 'bug' along the tutorial, because Renaissance expands the Titles available. In the Tutorial Chapter where Politics are explained, you can't continue. The problem is that Renaissence add a Tittle between Commoner (the first one) and Lesser Citizen (the title that let you apply for a charge). You only can reach the title of Yeoman (the second one) because you don't have enough money to buy the Lesser Citizen title, unless you make money. I'm not sure if you could make money using cheats.

Finally, If you go into the Campaign menu, it is empty. because there isn't any file about campaing in Renaissance. I wonder if it could be possible copy all that files from the others Guild 2 and play it in Renaissance.

Sorry for my english. I hope it helps.

I was so excited to see this, but then I realized I needed The Guild 2 to get it up and running BUT 1) thank you so much for digging into this and 2) hopefully this means that maybe pretty please, please someone on GoG's / Nordic's staff can work a bit with the Guild 2 Tutorial, get it up and running and upload a new Renaissance install? Please with a cherry on top? ;) For old time's sake?
So with a bit of tweaking I could actually get the menu to display "Campaign" and "Tutorial" - it's there but can't be clicked.

Also in \Guild 2 Renaissance \ Scripts \ Campaign there ARE files (.lua I think) for a tutorial.

Likewise in \ G2R \ Worlds there is a tutorial.wld

At the TOP of that list of worlds is addon.wld - in the Config file for the game, it loads the "endless" campaign and points to the "addon.wld" in another campaign reference. Anyone out there smarter than me able to mess about with the config file and get the game to load up the tutorial and maybe even a campaign? It LOOKS like currently, the Renaissance config is just loading up a "sandbox" with all the addon maps but it also maybe does look like it's possible to load up another set of campaigns. I could be wrong but on my install it seems like the files are there, the game just isn't loading them up (again, fudging around with the menu GUI files listed in the post above I was able to get the game to display "Tutorial" and "Campaign" buttons - they're there, they're just disabled for some reason).

Let's get this working I want to play! ;)

Exactly, that is what I noticed. Renaissance includes the tutorial although it is hidden because the singleplayermenu.gui file doesn't show the needed button to play it.

I guess you have tried using the file "singleplayermenu_demo.gui" to replace and rename it as the original file. I did that too, but as you found, you are able to see the Tutorial and Campaign buttons although they can't be clicked. So my conclusion is you need the file from Guild 2 or Guild 2 Pirates. That's what worked for me.

About Campaign, there is no more files in \Scripts\Campaign different than Tutorial or normal game. The addon.wld I'm not sure what map it is. However If you check: \Guild 2 Renaissance\Worlds you can see a 'dracula.wld' file. I think that file is the map of Transylvania though it uses that curious name. That makes me think the addon.wld file it's a map for normal game that is showed with its right name ingame.

I still continue thinking that it could be possible to play the campaigns if it is copied the campaign files from the Guild 2 and Guild 2 Pirates.
Thanks again for all this Eskorbox. I'm still going to keep at it a bit BUT if anyone else out there doesn't want to rename files and mess with config I eventually went ahead and downloaded The Guild 2 demo from The Guild 2 website. It's still up and includes the tutorial.

I hope eventually we can get some stuff "activated" that looks like might be in Renaissance already. And I also hope eventually we can get The Guild 2 manual added to The Guild 2 Renaissance download page, especially now that The Guild 2 is gone.
In case anyone missed it when they scanned the above post, I can confirm that the demo does contain the tutorial. If anyone else needs access to the tutorial, download the G2 demo from their website.
Also, feel free to jump in on the "Renaissance Questions" thread I started:

http://www.gog.com/forum/the_guild_series/renaissance_questions

There's already some good info in there, and it seems like a good start to a general help thread for those of us who are new to the game.
