Colo118: Ive had some big stuttering issue on my rig but im running with a 10 years old CPU I5 750 overclocked to 4ghz with an nvidia 1060.

I fixed the issue by creating the file cache folder and adding a command that uncapped the fps in the game. Now im running the game super smooth.

To do so you need to modify or create a shortcut that will look like this :

"D:\Gog\Games\The Evil Within\EvilWithin.exe" +fs_cachepath "D:\Gog\Games\The Evil Within\EWCache" +r_swapinterval 0

Right click on the shortcut then go to the shortcut tab and modify the Target line, for those who just want the uncapped fps just put +r_swapinterval 0

You need to create the cache folder and on the same drive where the games is installed

Edit: Btw im also able to play above 60fps without the letterbox.

Edit 2 : Ive also forced vsync off in the nvidia panel. Havent tried yet with vsync on.
I got a Ryzen 5 3600x, Radeon Rx 5700 8GB, and 16 GB RAM, I usually don't have issues with games, but oh boy, this game is a wreck, it ran at 13 fps and I was about to ask for a refund until I found your post, I applied both parameters for good measure and now it runs smoothly, the mouse in the menus is janky, but during gameplay is almost flawless, thanks a lot mate

W10, i7-4790K, 16GB RAM, 1080Ti, running The Evil Within 1 from an old mechanical 2TB HDD on an Ultrawide 1080p G-Synch monitor, all the ingame settings on the highest settings (vsync turned off) and the performance is great, very stable at 144fps, no stutters.

I didn't modify the shortcut or edit any other file. Just loading the game from GOG Galaxy (the overlay is on so I can see the framerate.)

Same here, it runs nicely out of the box ;) At least up until now.

Huh, me too. I was totally expecting it be intractably laggy as that has been my experience with all other id tech 5 games.

Based partly on this thread, I installed it in the precious little space on my SSD - and it performed beautifully right out of the gate! Woohoo! Didn't have to apply any command line threads. (No idea if the SSD was the "fix" vs whether the id tech 5 gods just showed mercy this time)

Thanks man, i bought it at the recent sale, and i got irritated as hell cause it was giving 4fps on my 6950xt toxic. I was about to ask for a refund cause the game was broken.

I will say, windows wants to remove some of the symbols in the shortcut, but it still works.

And the game was crashing in the entry to the first scene, untill i reajusted the fps to 60, in the in game menu, for now, its working all problem free. Lets hope it stays that way.
