HI:

In Bard's Tale (original), I notice that there is a strange but annoying 'popping' sound coming from my speaker while I navigate about town. The popping sound initiates each time I click the left mouse button to move in any direction. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a way to remove this?

Thanks.
I too am having this same issue after purchasing this package. I've tried everything I could think of and unfortunately searching for a fix or help on google has come up empty. Whenever I try to play the classic bard tale's games; 1, 2, or 3, I get an annoying and loud popping/crackling sound a long with stuttering, it's as if the sound is trying to play but lagging or perhaps moving too fast to do so. I've tried knocking the application down to 1 core, as well as various compatibility modes, and I've even tried messing with other options like vsync.

I can't even find a way to mute the music/sound in any of the games. It's really disappointing as these games are suppose to be perfectly compatible with my computer, and the whole reason for purchasing the package was to play the old classical games. The new one works 100%... which is nice, but very unfortunate as it was not the reason for purchasing the package.

I'd love to know if anyone else has had this issue and or found a way to fix or bypass it.
I think its just an issue with the emulator, and not so perfect Ensoniq wavetable emulation.

It exists in the i0S version too.

Also I think its supposed to represent 'foot steps'.
Okay, guess I lied in my previous post. Thinking I had tried all possible solutions, I decided to give it one more go. I switched compatibility mode to windows 98/me and all of the sound/music issues I was having were instantly resolved. Not exactly sure what this compatibility mode changed to make the game work as it should, but it defiantly works perfectly now.

Just goes to show that when you think you're at your ropes end, walk away for a few hours, and come back to it, there's normally always something you've forgotten to try. Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else was having similar issues to mine. And yes I get the random popping noise when I walk around, as stated by the poster above me, it seems to be something added into the game itself.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, thinking we were having somewhat similar issues, but apparently they were completely separate. I do hope that someone can shed some hope on the annoying popping footsteps noise though. Otherwise, I suppose I myself can live with it, the other problem I was having was something completely unbearable.

I had a problem with all Bard's Tale games. The sound was awful, lots of popping, and gameplay was slow.

I found out, that after restarting the computer, it will resolve this problem, and the games should play okay. I don't know I this is related, but I thought I'd post it, because I didn't see any other thread on here mentioning this.

So yeah, restart the computer if you get these problems like I did relating to sound.
