Hi,

I've just bought the game and have run into two problems.

Firstly, the patch will not install - it gives me the message that "Game installation not found, please reinstall". I have reinstalled, rebooted, run as administrator, put the file in the game directory but it will not work.

Secondly, I'm not happy that The Banner Saga is wanting to access the internet. Now this shouldn't be happening as I thought all games on GOG were DRM free. My firewall opens up a dialogue window asking if I want the game to access the internet, I say no and everything seems fine. I can get the base game without the patch to run with no problem. I don't know if I need to give it access to the internet before the patch will take but that can't be right, surely? As it happens, I'm not happy to allow it access so that's that :)

I have done a complete virus check and also run a Malwarebytes check and I have no problem.

Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Heya. Does the patch prompt for a filepath or anything? If so, you may need to give it the appropriate directions. I haven't had to mess around with many patches here, so I'm not too familiar with how they might work (and in the few cases I have, it went without issue).

Also, if you installed the game to a different directory than the default, this may be the cause of the patch's confusion as to where to apply itself.

As to the 'net connection thing...That is somewhat curious, seeing as this is single-player. I'm not aware of any light online features running in the background either, so I'm not sure what may be causing that. Maybe there's something in a readme tucked away in the game files or in a FAQ on their site?
I am having the same problem "Game installation not found, please reinstall". The game is installed and does run, but the patch cannot find it. I installed the game to the default folder. How does one direct the patch to the right folder?

Have you tried running both, the game's installer and the patch, by right-clicking => Run as administrator ?

The current installer (setup_the_banner_saga_2.1.0.3.exe) already includes the latest game version (2.7.01), there's no need to install the patch unless one has an older installer. You can see the game's version number briefly on the window title bar when the game is launching.

There should really be a clear note about this on the GOGshelf, and the nonsensical error message the patch installer gives isn't very helpful either. I spent quite some time scratching my head about this when I recently installed the game myself.
Thank you all for the help. It was indeed as jkiiskinen said - the patch is not needed. I'll send an email off to support to see if they will amend the info on the download page to stop this confusion.

As for the internet access I still have no idea why but I've blocked the game and it runs OK so (hopefully) no problems there.

Once again, thanks everyone for your help :)
