I just finished the game for the first time and have to say I wasn't entirely satisfied with the ending. Just for the record, I think the game is beautiful and for me it was definitely worth the purchase price. But while I'd give the game about a 90/100 score, the ending ( including the final battle ) seems more like a 70/100 at best. I thought it was rather abrupt, perhaps a bit too depressing for my tastes, and it left too many questions unanswered. Are they already working on a sequel or expansion... ?

How many possible endings are there, just two? Or do some of the earlier decisions have an impact on the ending?

For something completely different, but vaguely related: What's with this trend to include all of the Kickstarter backers during the credits screen? This isn't the first game where I've noticed this and I don't really get the point. Yes, all of them have donated a few bucks, which helped make this project succeed, and I appreciate that. But beyond that, why should I care about the specific names of a few thousand people I'll most likely never know or hear of again? For me it further cheapened the ending atmosphere and credits screen to some extent. By the time I finally decided to quite the screen, the ending theme was long over and the screen was still scrolling through names beginning with the letter C or D, I think. Are any of you annoyed by this sort of thing as well? Does anyone actually bother to sit through the entire list of backers, for whatever reason?

By the way, I'd like to try and keep this topic mostly spoiler free, as to not ruin the experience for those who have yet to complete ( or start ) the game. If you want to talk about any potential spoilers please give a clear warning.

I loved the game and was actually happy with the ending but only because... *spoiler!*

Oooh wait I don't see spoiler tags so I won't go into detail in this post. And yes Charles the game is a planned trilogy... I hope we get it!

The fact that it might be a trilogy is actually the only thing that disappointed me about the game. In a vacuum, I have no problem with what I payed for the game, I love supporting the developers and I absolutely got 24.99 UTILS of enjoyment out of it. It was beautiful, it was unique, it oozed myth and it featured several gameplay aspects that just hit on many of the things I look for when playing. That said I can't help but feel the game should have been priced closer to 15 or 20 dollars, especially if I'm "expected" to buy two more. I HATE going on like this, because again, I absolutely feel like I got my money's worth, I loved the game and in an era of $40 - $60 console titles with MAYBE 8 hour campaigns I feel like a jerk for complaining about this one. I hope I don't discourage anyone from picking it up, because the game is fantastic... but if anyone at Stoic sees this, please consider a drop in price for the next iterations - you'll turn this loyal fan of your (first?) offering into a life long one!

Well, I just started playing it again today, because I wanted to try some alternate dialogue options and possible alternate endings(?), and also to try out hard difficulty mode. As I mentioned in my first post, I wasn't really happy with the ending, but overall it's a great game and I do recommend it to all fans of tactical RPGs, Viking games and perhaps even visual novels. Oh, and owners of Windows Tablet PCs, because it works perfectly on those.

About the planned trilogy: I'm very happy to hear we'll get more, and maybe just a little irritated, because it will likely be a long wait until the next release. I can't personally complain about the price, though. I think the quality and amount of content, and the unique experience provided by the game, were well worth the 20 bucks or so. ( Was there a discount at release? Not sure how much exactly I paid. ) But maybe they'll consider a discount on the future releases, if you already own the first game. GOG often does that anyway, so we should be good.

By the way, feel free to send me a private message if you'd like to discuss any potential spoilers.
VAGUE SPOILERS!

Okay, here's the deal. Juno leads you to go get something for the end of the game. Two different people can potentially carry that 'something' into the final battle, and whoever does will have a very bad day. So that's two possible endings. The third ending is that you fail the final battle and die.

Yeah, I've only seen one version of the ending, but I figured as much. But I was hoping that maybe certain decisions earlier on could lead to a completely different ending -- oh well. And dying in the final battle really leads to an alternate ( bad ) ending?
Kind of. It leads to a screen that says 'You dead, sucka,' in Viking-talk.

The choices you make in the game determine which heroes you still have left to help you at the end, and indirectly the condition (morale) of those heroes. Although I try to save as many caravan members and fighters as possible, sad to say they are not strictly necessary for winning. Think of them as 'points' if you like.

I can't even beat the last battle ::-(
I can take out everything BUT the red guy.

It goes like this: Clear field, taking some armour and minimal hitpoint damage.
Red attack, character down, red attacks, character down. ;..;
It really helps to have Iver's magic belt for this one. Give it to a really good archer or to Haakon. Take every archer you can who is level 3 or higher with maxed willpower use and armour break. Start with all your forces opposite Bellower with Mogr or Iver stuck out front. Start shooting Bellower's armour as soon as possible. Each time you hit Bellower, he takes the next turn, meaning the other Dredge will NEVER move if you keep hitting him. Don't worry about your guys dying, just stick in and hammer his armour with the archers. Once the armour is low run up a Warhawk and slam his strength, followed up by each archer until he's dead. You'll probably lose the two giants you stick out to block for your archers, but you'll win.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot! :-)
That last battle was the hardest of my life.

Must feel awesome when you complete it, though. :D
