I am wondering where you got that information from, as UakM was indeed released in 1994 but on 4 CD-Roms, making the GOG installation slightly smaller than the total size of the retail version.

I'm assuming you're thinking of the HD space to install it, not the size of the game. Most of the game stayed on the CDs when you installed it, the GOG version's install size naturally includes the size of the CDs too.
