Hey everyone!

I have been hearing about Tex Murphy every so often, and the screenshots that I have seen around on the store pages of each game in the series make it seem like something I would enjoy playing. The only FMV game I've played in the past is Gabriel Knight 2, which I loved but never finished... And Myst, if that counts as an FMV game!

So, as someone who has very little FMV experience and no Tex Murphy knowledge, which game would be a good place to start according to you? Which game do you consider to be the definitive Tex Murphy experience?

I am asking because I just read some reviews on the store page of the first Tex Murphy, one of which mentions that it features flying-sections that are boring and hard to play through nowadays. Do you think I should skip the first?

I don't have problems playing older games and can get used to clunky and rough interfaces and controls, as long as the game in question isn't broken, or so infuriatingly frustrating that it could be considered unplayable.

Thank you in advance :)

Start with Under A killing Moon then Pandora Directive then Overseer and finally Tesla Effect. The other 2 are very old and not fmv .

I agree with this. The series really took off with "Under a Killing Moon." When you're done with UaKM, just follow the order jimrh69 suggested. Also, you might not know, but Overseer is a retelling of "Mean Streets," the first game. The "Pandora Directive" was probably the best game in the series. After you've played the four FMV games, you can go back and check out "Mean Streets" and "Martian Memorandum" if you're curious. I actually really like "Mean Streets," but the flying part can be a real pain to sit through. You don't have to be able to fly yourself though, the auto-pilot will take you to all the crucial locations. But you still have to sit through the flight. I didn't care much for Martian Memorandum, but maybe you will. All that said, play the FMV games first.
The order given by jimrh69, although Overseer is buggy from what I hear. Keep in mind that UaKM is deliberately campy, relying on slapstick humour. The other sequels are a bit more serious, though not without humour on their own. Tex Murphy games typically feature several distinct section: dialogue and puzzle section (e.g. Chandler Avenue), dangerous exploration section, back-to-back logic puzzles section. You won't like all of them, but the games are very good in general.
play GK2 from beginning to end instead

Sorry for the late 'Thank you', but thank you (and the others who replied).

I will start with Under a Killing Moon :)
