I typed in the location coordinate for auto pilot and let me computer sit there while I drove for--at least 8 minutes but I can't tell if I am getting closer to destination--there is a mileage number but its going up and map has a couple paths on it--not sure which one is me. I am guessing I'm the red X but there is a yellow X also. I saw it mentions slowing down when closer to destination but I can't figure out when to do that--or if I am close at all anyway. Any tips?

If you're in autopilot mode then the computer should automatically drive for you - as in drive there, land and stop. That's when you know you're there.

Also places you can land at will be flashing if I recall.

Perhaps you accidentally disabled auto-pilot or something? It shouldn't take anywhere near 8 minutes - even when this game came out and I played it on the Amiga it wasn't THAT slow...

I honestly can't recall much about the map coordinates or anything, since I just used the autopilot pretty much all the time, except perhaps for those stupid "bonus" shooting stages for extra cash.

Maybe...it never stopped and I thought I was in auto pilot but I was trying to look around while flying and it seemed to have changed directions. I guess I should just restart it and then click destination and leave screen alone until I show up/stop somewhere?

Yep, I think that might have been it - I think looking around while driving puts it back into manual mode. I'd try what you said - stick it in auto and wait till it gets somewhere. It definitely shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes, if that (from memory).
