Hello,

At home, I have a french version (in CD) ot Tex Murphy Overseer, but it cannot works on Win XP !!! So I bought the GOG version of the game. French is my mother language and the jokes in american are complicate for me.

I already tried to put the CHAR.LS files from the first CD ot the french version into the GOG.com but it isn't work. I tried also to put the overseer.exe file from the french version into the GOG.com version and that don't work.

Please help me if you have other ideas I don't try before.

Excuse me because I know my written English is not perfect.

Unfortunately it is not possible to use the subtitles from the CD you have. I have the german version and did not succeed either. It seems that the menus and movie subtitles are contained in the .exe file and the dialogue choices are in another file. I managed to use the dialogue choices in the GOG version but not the movie subtitles.

You think the same as me !!! A part of the translation is in the CHAR.LS but the rest are in the .exe file of the game.

I'm so happy I can play this game on my actual PC. Thank you so much, GOG.COM !

But that will be perfect if GOG can create a patch for the other languages than English (french, german, but also spanish, russian, italian). I know we are not in a perfect world but...
I tried to replace the String and Dialog Ressources in the gog Overseer.exe file with the one of the german Overseer.exe (From the german Patch, which not work on my system).
But this is not working. there is a error message for a missing dll if i start the modified exe.
Does anyone know, if there is something else to change, after replace the ressources in a exe file? (A checksum or so?
Maybe someone else tried this with success?
Jonathan66100 explain here how to put the videos from the DVD version in the GOG.com game with the french subtitles:

I'm sorry, I cannot put links

and here (in a french forum, so... in french !):

I'm sorry, I cannot put links

I try his solution on a first PC (a core 2 quad , with Win XP) but the 3D engine bugs and it isn't possible to play like this ! Why, it's simple, because Overseer don't like multicore CPU's. So, that work on some computer, and that crash on others. Read here:

I'm sorry, I cannot put links

I try on my laptop (core 2 duo, with XP), and that works better, except two problems: the french subtitles are running too fast and every videos are finishing by a white freezing screen. I have just one solution: save my game during the white screen, quit the game and restart the save game.

As isn't no fun to play a game like this, I want to know if someone have those problems and if he solve them... successfully

What editor do you use to modify the overseer.exe ? I want to try it myself, for the french version.

I would think he tried a hexeditor which can be found throughout the internet a lot.
