Having a rather strange problem with Overseer, using the newest GoG version on Windows 7 64-bit, Intel i5-3570, GeForce GTX 670.

Everything works up until the Anasazi ruins, when I try the cog puzzle. It lets me into the screen, but the game totally freezes up and I have to hard reboot the PC. I've moved the save file over to my Vista laptop, where the game allows me to get past the puzzle, but when I moved the save game back to my Win 7 PC, the following brick puzzle froze up in the same fashion.

I've tried turning changing CPU affinity to 1 core, changing compatibility settings, all to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm experiencing the same in windows 8.1. When starting the cog puzzle the game crashes.

unfortunately Overseer crashing is a frequent event (especially at this part of the game). I don't know if there is a 'tried and true' method to fix it, but you can search the forum (there are a lot of suggestions on what to do) or submit a support ticket.

the cog puzzle isn't a normal place where the game is known to crash,
over the years the places for it to crash were -
1. crossing the chasam with the ladder (now fixed with the dvd patch)
2. using the poles at the Gideons gallery lowering the chandelier. (solved by selecting microsoft midi mapper)
3. at times at val davis lab
4. trying to trap the snake. (solved by standing back )

Your crash could be just standing too close......something great about tex murphy games is you can do the puzzels from a distance. ( at alcatraz you can aim your mouse from end of the corridor to the other end )

I manage to play overseer with no crashes now since the dvd patch was put out. (this patch was loaded in to gog's installer with the dvd version.

I've searched on google amongs other places and it's not an uncommon place to have crash. It is an audio issue causes the crash as I'm able to avoid it by in gaming muting the audio. I thought it's worth mentioing since I've followed the instructions on how to fix the audio part for windows 8, but it does have limitations it seems.

to stop the crash are you muting the midi or all the audio.

Muting the midi was enough to get passed the issue.

I've installed coolsoft as from a different post and set up. On midi I have now set up Microsoft midi mapper.
