Well that's a bit annoying. I reached a part of the dungeon I can't get past. I was worried that dungeon bricks are unbreakable, but it apparently nightmare pickaxes can mine them (phew)
Has anyone else encountered this?

Haha, that is awesome if it's not a bug. A senseless door. It feels like an usual easter egg or a parody to hyper rationality.

Can't you reach the room above you through some other pathway?

Reminds me I still haven't defeated Skeletron yet and I really want inside the Dungeon. I'm starting to regret choosing Expert mode..
Those sorts of open-air doors are actually fairly common in large rooms. It's highly unusual for a room of the dungeon to be completely separated, though. You should be able to navigate the entire dungeon without breaking any bricks. It's possible that disconnected room is part of another section of the dungeon that overlaps your current section.

Said I when I got my ass kicked by EoC three times in a row xD. I thought: well, it seems that no dungeon on this world.

Sorry I neglected to mention, but that's just the thing. That area with the two skeletons is completely unreachable, a curious fact that I triple checked. From the entrance, way above, the dungeon sort of zig zags down to this point, and then you can't go any further. I'll have to kill the Eater of the Worlds first in order to get a pickaxe that can mine the dungeon bricks :P

Nope, that's just the dice. I've seen a few pointless doors like that.

there is always supposed to be a dungeon in every world. Every world is supposed to have the following at the start: at least one corrupted or crimsoned biome, a snow biome(as of 1.2 before that they were rare), a jungle, jungle temple, desert, forest, two "sea"/oceans, hell/underworld, a dungeon, a X number of floating islands and sky oceans. X being the number that are set to be generated based on world size, the larger the world the more are spawned but the higher they are in the air.

There are few rare biomes and places that are not guaranteed on world gen. such as Pyramids in the desert and surface glowing mushroom fields(though players can make their own with mud, glowing mushrooms and a glowing mushroom grass seeds. One trick to know where your dungeon is to find where your jungle is and then head the opposite direction. So if your jungle is to the west then your dungeon is to the east, usually before you reach the ocean on that side.

weird, you sure you haven't missed a door or pathway somewhere? I often find that I think I reached a dead end in the dungeon only to find I overlooked a passage due to the lighting or a door. Could you take a screencap of your map(you can pull up a full screen of your map by pressing M) try to fit as much of where you explored in your dungeon as you can in the shot of your map.

DCT: ...
Sure, here you go. I've been up and down a few times to farm bones, and been keeping an eye out for a missed passage/door, so I'm pretty sure I haven't missed anything

DCT: snip
There will be a dungeon, which I shall not be able to access because I won't be able to kill Skeletron ;)

With an antenna like that, I'm sure your dungeon has great TV/radio/phone reception! : P

But the remote is in that room. Or why do you think its so urgent to get in there?
