Avast thinks the Terraria 1.3.0.4 exe file is a virus and deleted it. This is the first time Avast has thought Terraria or any game of mine, is a virus.

And now 1.3.0.5 is on Steam, but not GOG. Hoping it will be on GOG soon and that Avast doesn't think it is a virus like 1.3.0.4, it didn't have issues with the .exe until 1.3.0.4

I will also post this issue on the Avast forum in case Avast just changed something as well.

We just got the 1.3.0.5 patch here and it's nearly midnight so we'll be putting out a Terraria update tomorrow :)

That's probably Avast being way too aggressive in its checks. It's been reported for the Steam version as well.

Then it must be something new because I have used Avast for 9+ years and have had Terraria on GOG and Steam for a long time with no issues. This is the first application on my system that Avast has done a false positive. It scans nightly and didn't get upset until GOG version 1.3.0.4 , the Steam 1.3.0.5 is working fine and manually scanning it with Avast does not cause a false positive. Makes me wonder what it doesn't like about 1.3.0.4.

But doesn't matter right now since I need GOG to have 1.3.0.5 so Steam and GOG Terraria can play together again.

It's usually to do with the heuristic scan, where it basically checks for patterns in the file that seem similar to those in known viruses or the like. It's simply the AV software erring on the side of caution.
It's probably because of DeepScan or Hardened mode, one is for computer newbies and one is crazy neat when it comes to false positives.

Deepscreen (not scan) is enabled by default , and I have that on and always have. Hardened mode is disabled by default and I have that disabled, and always have. Hardened Mode is for inexperienced users according to the info icon. Though it is disabled by default. Go figure.

Anyway, same settings I have used for years and this is the first false positive that I have had for major apps or any game on GOG or Steam. Going to wait for 1.3.0.5 to be available on GOG and see if Avast is ok with 1.3.0.5 like it was with all versions prior to 1.3.0.4

Hopefully 1.3.0.5 comes out before the end of today. Still shows the 1.3.0.4 version on GOG client. I have posted on an existing Avast forum thread about 1.3.0.4 being detected as a false positive.

The downloadable installer for 1.3.0.5 is updated since at least 3 hours ago. :)

I have Terraria on both Steam and GOG, but it is the Steam version that is installed right now. Avast picked up 1.3.0.4 as a false positive for me last night, too, so I just temporarily disabled the Avast shields, restored the file then submitted a false positive report via the Avast program before starting the game up. When I quit the game, Steam had 1.3.0.5 and it's been fine since then.

EDIT: Oh, and 1.3.0.5 is downloadable on the GOG site for me. Not had a look to see which version the client downloads, but considering that the GOG client would download the installed >800MB files, the installer itself is much better at only 133MB.

Looks like I had to exit and re-start the GOG client to see it. Because I did check again before I made my post and it was still 1.3.0.4, but after restarting the client, I see 1.3.0.5. So thanks for letting me know.

Still, I wish the updates would be pushed to GOG first and then Steam. Since then I can wait to apply the GOG update after the Steam update. Steam doesn't let me disable auto updates. So each time I launch Steam's Terraria, it updates and then I can't play with GOG Terraria players in the same LAN server games.
