Because its the best Terminator...anything we've seen in decades!
It follows the only two good movies in the franchise, and delivers a gameplay experience reminiscent of the best Terminator games, Future Shock and Skynet.
After the latest patch that re balances the gameplay, it went from okay gameplay boosted by the Terminator atmosphere to really REALLY good gameplay. It's more like Fallout+Alien isolation and plays more like an immersive sim which is really what it was designed to be. It seems like you are expecting a Triple AAA experience which is just not practical, it is a budget game made with a small budget and with that in mind they've maximized their budget to the greatest extent they could have. It's really not all that different from the first film honestly, it was kind of a low budget film, at least a third of what most big budget hollywood films were in 84, but it understood what it was and how to achieve it, and this game does the exact same thing. If stealth rpg isn't your thing, and you aren't into the movies (especially 1 and 2) then yeah I can understand why someone would not like this game, but if you are a big fan of the films like me it will be extremely worth the buy, especially on sale

M4XXST3IN: The game is pretty dam good, at first it look low budget but when you set post effects to medium the game looks much more crisp and the option to turn off the Motion blur, Film grain is a big + the sound is amazing and the aspect of the game comes with the old arcade feel the A.I is slow at times but either vs the static layout the game is worth a good play through.

Am waiting for the linux version to be released on GOG before buying it.

Having said that as on now, this game is the only that comes close to the original story. There is a much awaited (by fans) game in the making - Tech-Com: 2029 but if, how and when it will release is to be seen...
The gameplay being simple doesn't means it's bad. It's nothing revolutionary but he doesn't intend to break your expectation of what a FPS is. I really enjoyed go through its main story and even more with the infiltrator mode.

And it's not just about slapping an IP, they respected the source material on superficial level but also in the story and the world building.

You know, sometimes you got to stop being a pretencious snob and just deal with the fact that a lot of gamers enjoy that game for what it is.
