I'm making a Bard for my party, and assume a Bard would want a high Perform score. When I get to the Skills part of character creation, I see -2 in the Misc Modifiers section under Perform. I've chosen Bard, Half-Elf, and have 18 CHA... what could be giving me this penalty? I'm using the Co8 mod if that has some strange bearing on the issue.

You get a -2 penalty unless you're holding an instrument.

Wonderful, thank you! Does it matter what instrument I hold?

Nope. As long as you have an instrument of some type equipped, you're golden.

It does matter. Use a masterwork instrument for a +2 skill bonus :D

Nitpicker. Yeah, you get a bonus with a masterwork instrument, but it doesn't matter what one you use if you're concerned about getting rid of the -2 penalty.
