I have a question related to this topic.

I am almost at the prince's room (i see i have a huge battle before i get to him - unless there's a trick to get around that first), I built a fighter completely around getting this sword (Chaotic Good, weapon focus, specialization, greater focus, improved crits - all bastard sword), and I'm wondering which sword is better? And how to get both?

I looked up weapons somewhere (maybe gamebanshee?) and found these, they say Frag is a bastard sword and Scather is a Greatsword. They also say damage is holy and chaotic for both. Are they wrong on these details?

From what I looked up I figured I had to fight him to get Frag - the sword I wanted according to wherever I looked them up.

Any help on this?

EDIT: I posted this on another thread, then realized how old it was and decided I'd get a quicker response just making my own question thread. Thanks!

If you read Jagged Jim's Walkthrough posted at Gamefaq, he tells how to get both swords. Note: Use the "find" option in your browser to search the text of his walkthrough for the keyword "Fragarach".

Gazra's Walkthrough over at Co8 has a ton of useful info as well.

Fragarach is a bastard sword. Jagged Jim claims Scather is a greatsword, but my own saved game shows it as a bastard sword. In any case it always hits, so you can use it effectively with any character, even without Weapon Proficiency.

If I remember correctly, saving the prince is a timed quest (after finding the temple).
So if you don't want to fight him but still want the sword, you just wait a few weeks or so.
You'll then only find his items but no prince.

Those with better knowledge or memory, feel free to correct.
Thanks.

I ended up just killing him for it though.
In my game, i purposely got him killed in the temple, then looted Fragarach from his corpse, then took the corpse to Homlett and revived him (he is a vampire after all). After that he leaves the party, and you get the reward + Scather as well.

Now that's... devious... and handy. :D
Think I'll do that the next time I try this.
If you do, just remember not to multi-weapon fight using both Fragarach and Scather on the same character. That's one of the causes of screen-freeze that the Co8 team couldn't fix apparently.
