Point-and-click I get, but that just makes the protagonist talk about what I click on.
Ctrl seems to be the same as click
Alt and right-click seems to be "action" such as "walk out of the screen" or "talk to whoever you click on"
F1 to F10 all to the same thing, show a screen where you can load, save, quit and change a few settings.
How do I give the documents/pass to the guard? None of the above does anything to that extent.
Okay, yeah, I'm stuck on the first interactive screen, yay me.

think you need the mouse upwards so your inventory shows.
the papers you need should be in there

Ah, there! I had to hold the pointer up there a little while, I was thinking it'd pop onto the screen as soon as I came near the border.
Thanks.

Yes the window shows up, but then how do you actually give the papers to the guard?

In the inventory screen, you can left-click on any item for a description of it. You can right-click to use it with some other object.
So just right-click on the papers, move your mouse down so the inventory screen disappears ("use papers &" should be showing up at the bottom of the screen), and click on the guard (when you move the mouse over the guard "use papers & guard" should appear).
That should work.
Left mouse button is for looking at things either in the world or in the inventory and right mouse button is for action - picking up objects, talking to people, using stuff and leaving locations. It's as simple as that.
Look's like i wasn't onlyone who had trouble at starting screen.
I remember my first time with Teenagent in nineties. I had the same problem:)
Thanks for this! Was stuck here too. :)
I'm also stucked there too :)
