Can someone please point me to a thorough explanation of lockpicking?

You have to position the pick in the "sweet spot" then turn the lock to open it. If the lock gets stuck or breaks the pick when you turn it, then you need to move the pick left or right until you find that sweet spot that allows you to fully open it.
