Both times I have tried to play the demo my PC has completely shut off and turns back on a few seconds after. I haven't had any issues like this before and my power supply isn't very old so I don't think its a sign of it dying. Has anyone else run into this? The first time it shut off was in the first room you fight one of the robots and the second was in the next room with the two mutated things.
The demo is really poorly optimized (after all it is pre-alpha) and will tax your computer a lot more than it should, even more than many AAA games. So the question is, doesn't your computer overheat while playing the demo? You can try something like HWmonitor, alt+tab out of the game upon launching it and check max temperatures

Unfortunately I also had this happen once while playing CS:GO. It only did it once early this week and hasn't done it again since but the System Shock demo still causes it more than anything else. I just find it hard to believe this is a PSU issue since I've had trouble with it since I bought it about a year ago.
Is the render performance good? Excessive frame rates could theoretically overheat your GPU or CPU and force an immediate shutdown. It is summer after all, warmer rooms.

You are correct to identify the symptoms of a failing PSU, maybe you shouldn't dismiss the possibility. What brand? My last bad PSU couldn't keep the GPU from crashing while playing streamed videos even. If you're using a Corsair you have a few years of warranty.

The render performance seems fine, if a little laggy at times. My framerate probably hovers somewhere around 30 - 45 when playing the System Shock demo. I had a friend bring over his spare video card and tested some games out. Everything worked fine with the exception of System Shock which crashed on both tries. My PSU is a Corsair CX750M.
