So I've decided to try replaying System Shock 2, my first play through was on another Mac that broke recently.

But my new one doesn't seem to like SS2 very much, when I start the game the textures go apeshit until the game crashes a few seconds later. Eventually I learned that this only seems to happen when I choose the Mac's native resolution, but it's still odd. I've tried to screen cap it but no success so far. I really dunno what's going on, this was never an issue on my old Mac.

Oh yeah, I currently have a 13 inch Macbook Pro with retina (newest model, I think...), in case anyone wonders.

I've been having the same issue. At first the game was working normally and now it's not working, even when I updated the winewrapper, allowed it to bypass security, etc.

Although I cannot comment on your case specifically (SS2 worked fine for me on my iMac), I have found with some WINE games that if the graphics suddenly go all screwy I need to delete the game app and reinstall it from the dmg file. The new game then runs fine, although I'll need to reset the game preferences, but my saves are all still there... make a copy of the old app first just to be safe!

I suppose I'm a bit late in responding to this thread since it seemed to be largely ignored, should've probably said I found a solution.

I can't guarantee said solution will work for all Mac users but for me, changing the Wineskin engine seemed to work for me, but you'll have to download Wineskin Winery and then download an engine via the app first. Wineskin Winery can be found here:

If anyone needs any more guidance you can ask, although I kinda can't guarantee I'll respond very quickly.

I hope I was of some help here.

Hi, can you help me in detail with ss2? I've got a macbook pro 13 2015 and when the game starts it flickers and crash after few seconds. How have you solved that? I've download the wine app you suggested in the previous post, but then what shouldi do in details?
