Gang,

I question or thought, you think a crowd funded deal to bring SS2 up to date in terms of graphics would
that be feasible? Change the graphics in the game to the Unreal 4 graphics engine or the Crytek 3 engine.
Leave everything else alone (gameplay, AI, music and so on). Just to make it visually stunning, I mean the game is scary already, could you imagine what it would be like with the latest and the greatest graphics?
What do you think?
the last attempt didn't go too well. now that Star Insurance owns System Shock, things might be different, but generally, big soulless companies are not very friendly to modders that mess around with their ip.

Yeah, I saw that too and its not bad, but I'm talking movie like graphics. Now that would be bada**:)
I don't know if a new engine would be good.

For some reason, every time someone talks about an old game on a new engine, I immediately worry about a different feeling in the gameplay.

I just like that ancient engine they were using in SS2 and all gameplay mechanics that came with it. Might just be me, though.

OK, then have two versions of the game the original and an updated (graphics wise). So people have a choice which one to use. Might be interesting to find out how it would effect game sales. And NO console version!!!!!!!!!! So there!
yanking over textures and level geometry to another engine is fun, but unless you are able to fully recreate the game mechanics, it does not really mean anything. and recreating the full functionality essentially from scratch is a tremendous task - not impossible (see the Dark Mod), but tremendous nevertheless.

Yeah, I figured it would not be that easy (sigh) but one can dream.
