So, finished the training, got brought out of cryo, went to the corpse, picked up the wrench, equipped the wrench, and... that's it.

No wrench displaying in the gameplay screen. I can click the mouse button, and the sound effect happens, but, it doesn't actually exist, apparently. Can't hit the duct, can't hit anything. It shows up in my inventory and shows as being equipped, but, clearly it isn't.

This is a straight vanilla install from gog.com, no mods added. Uninstall and reinstall?

I got the same problem.
I was able to destroy the duct and climb up the ladder.
But when I encountered the first bad guys they beat me to death - and I can't hit them.
I hear the sound of the wrench - but that's all.

I used the SS2_rebirth_v02 mod - but it did not work with a clean installation either.
Same problem.

Any good ideas?

EDIT:
Deleted and reinstalled again.
The wrench is now visible without the SS2_rebirth_v02 mod.
With the mod it is invisible...
All the other weapons are ok.

I think you didn't use the latest ss2tool - it should always be applied before attempting to mod the game. see the sticky topic.

I use the SS2tool now.
But now I got no more speech in the game...

When I go to the Audio tab in the options menu I also can't test speakers.
No response. Although the game has sound and the soundtrack is playing...
There is no sound when I'm in the audio menu.
Weird.
Any suggestions?

I got the german version, btw.

I've just tried the latest GOG installer with ss2tool 5.1, and it (sound) works fine. make sure you are not using outdated versions.

//ah, the german version. will investigate. in the meantime, check your install.cfg, you should see "language german" there. if not, try to correct it.

You forgot to select [Bug fixes>>Deutsch Patch].
It's specifically explained on the options selections screen. Lesen hilft.

Just found it.
Apparently I did the 'sstool5.1' install without the german patch option.
Must have accidently clicked on the tick box twice.
After re-install everything is fine.

deinstallation and new installation without using ss2tool was helpfull.

maybe i will download the english version using ss2tool to test some mods...
