AdmiralBarrett: Since I did not get this to work on my Win7 x64 rig, I tried my old XP machine and had no problems. One thing I did observe is that the tell-tale "double pop" in the speakers to tell you that Sound Blaster initialized properly was present in XP, but not in Win7. I cannot help but wonder if the emulation in the Enhanced Edition is causing the crash with failed or unstable initialization. It would explain why some people have crashes while others have gameplay, but no sound.
I also have a crash, sometime between the Intro and when I skip the Intro it crashes depending on how fast I click so it will crash always around the same time BUT always somewhere else depending on if I skipped something or not. So at the fastest I can skip everything till new Game and then it crashes without a specific error message.
I have sound and also tried the above .ini changes with Fullscreen, Windowed Mode, Joystick Off, etc.
As I use the current Windows 10 Insider Version I don't think I will get much help but as others experience this issue too it's not the Insider Build this time at least :)
System Shock Classic Edition works perfectly.
