I got this game for free by purchasing another game and, having read one of the reviews, there is one thing I am wondering:

Is it necessary (for a normal first-time player) to use guns, or can you make due with just the psionic powers you get and any melee weapons the game gives you?

I could, of course, ask the same question for someone familiar with the game. Is the answer still the same?
Playing full psionic is not recommended for first-time players. As is PC gaming not recommended for people who have an aversion to guns.
Implementation of PSI powers is incredibly clunky in System Shock 2, and they're strictly worse than guns. However, game is perfectly finisheable using them, and knowing your way of playing games dtgreene, I think you're quite likely to have a lot of fun with them - there's loads of PSI powers, most of them utterly useless so I'm sure you'd find some sort of contrived way to kill the entire level.

Woah! Welcome back, hey how you doing?

I progressed far in game with slight difficulty in beginning only, with hacking and research for starting skills (can't remember class name, sorry). But guns are good and i personally think, mandatory. They are the main and mainstream source of damage... Hacking turrets also helps... But yes, guns are, well, guns...

Hey, didn't really go anywhere, I'm still occasionally around the game-specific subforums.
yes, it just takes too much time to toggle diff psi effects and spells when all you have to do is whip out a gun and mow them down in 1-2 shots. Psi does work good as a back up to guns imo
