is this essential to follow character build guide for beat the game?
Old games often had bad balance, so sometime I just can't beat the some games if I raise bad skills.

so what about SS2? many peoples says avoid some skills(repair, exotic, research etc), so I afraid.

If you play on normal and in a reasonable way (don't waste hypos and nanites, save ammo), you should be fine even if you pick the crappiest skills possible.
