I made a video of two bugs that I've encountered while playing the mac version of this game. I am not sure if these bugs occur in all versions of the game or if it only happens in the Mac version. This is something I thought I should make a video of because it is rather annoying. -_-

The first clip demonstrates when I duplicate items, my view shoots off in a direction upwards. This also happens when searching desks, corpses, etc. Also should mention, sometimes when I open up the menu to search for items my mouse shoots off in a random direction.

The second clip demonstrates when using duplication the game fails to bring up my inventory. I found out that opening and closing my inventory will fix this bug.

Have these bugs always been in the game or are they exclusive to mac?

EDIT: I was going to say I played through SS2 recently on my Mac a few months ago without those bugs, but actually thinking back I did not use that duplication power, so I cannot say if it was present for me or not. Sorry :(.

Did you experience your game crashing a lot? Specifically, when I am using a speed booster and moving very fast, the game tends to crash. It may have to do with the fact that I lowered the games frame rate to 75 in the cam_ext.cfg file. But I remember it crashing when it was at the default 100 as well. Or it may just be the fact that I'm playing games on Mac. >_>

No, it didn't crash for me at all (I didn't use the speed booster either though). I just played the vanilla version, no mods, no editing the cfg file, or anything like that.
here is what my shock2.log is showing.

It says unsupported mode under the resolution.. I tried running the game in the same resolution as my desktop but the game still crashed….

ok, let me get this right - you are not running the game in the same resolution as your desktop, because it crashes, right? if that's the case, try running windowed and see whether things change for the better or not.

edit cam_ext.cfg with some text editor, and change

;force_windowed
into

force_windowed
save and exit, run the game and see what happens.

also, the game should create its own crash dumps, look around the game folder for crash.dmp, if found, upload it to mediafire or sendspace, and post the link.

sendspace. com/file/a9fg60

I tried running in windowed mode and get the same results.

ok, but you are apparently able to launch the game (as you've made some videos) - what settings are you using to get it running? what resolutions do you have in the video options menu?

voodoo47: ok, but you are apparently able to launch the game (as you've made some videos) - what settings are you using to get it running? what resolutions do you have in the video options menu?
Im currently running it in 1200x800x32 16:10 (just like my macbook's resolution). I was running it in 640x480 before. I have had the game crash in both resolutions. The only time it seems to crash is when Im moving very fast with a speed booster or when I am navigating through the menu when I am looking in a crate or a corpse.
try this.

also, try adding
d3d_disp_2d_surf_mode 0
into your cam_ext.cfg (edit it with some text editor).
Where should I add in "d3d_disp_2d_surf_mode 0" ? Is there a specific line to add it to?
Post edited March 02, 2014 by unreal704
any empty line is fine.
I believe that line I added may have fixed my problems. That "use Mac driver instead of X11" box was already unchecked for my wineskin. Thank you!

By the way, did you happen to watch my video? Do you have any idea why my screen shoots off in an upwards direction as I duplicate items?
I have seen something similar a long time ago, and it has been caused by not running the game in the same resolution as your desktop - I would always recommend running the same res as your desktop, but if I understand correctly, you are unable to, and windowed mode is not fixing it either, right? anyway, that shouldn't be a game stopping issue.

also, just for the record, the psi skills are a buggy mess, good thing almost nobody uses them.
