I'm sure a million PC gamer voices just cried out in terror but this game is fisheye city for me at default. Any way to lower the FOV to something more modern?

I assume by "more modern" you mean "more consoley", as SS2's FOV is entirely typical of PC FPSs.

And yes, there is. Look in cam_ext.cfg, there's a clearly labeled FOV setting in there.
You are looking for the following options in cam_ext.cfg:

widescreen_lock_hfov
fov XX

XX is the desired FOV number. Althrough why you would want to change that is beyond me.

I think those terms are irrelevant considering every game now-a-days is multiplatform. More modern means just that.

Could I just remove the lock to keep the 4:3 FOV in widescreen or should I actually change the number to something like 75?

Depends on your monitor and your personal taste I guess. Just try, you can't break anything.

Yeah... no. Console games are optimized for viewing from several feet away, while PC games are optimized for viewing from several inches away. This has very real consequences for UI design, font sizes, and yes, FOV settings. This is exactly why "PC-optimized interface!" is considered a selling point these days.

Yes, I know all that. It does not change the fact modern games tend to have lower FOVs, so thus I want a modern FOV. You can say the same thing in console vs. PC war terms if you want but it doesn't really change anything.

And, as an aside, obviously there are PC gamers who prefer a lower FOV, or this thread would not exist.
