I've reached the hydroponics level and now have the choice of an upgrade. I was wondering which ones people like for a psi character. I tried using the two-implant upgrade, but the speed and psi implants run down while you're just walking around, it seems.

The overhead melee seems useful given the amount of time I spend bashing heads, the 20% savings on hypos looks decent, as does the 20% price reduction, and I like the idea of 25% less toxin and rad damage.

Any thoughts? I rely on hacking, psi and head-bashing, basically.
Well, Cybernetically Enhanced is pretty much the best upgrade in the whole game for any character, no real reason not to get it. Of course you run out of energy (yout get a constant stat upgrade while the energy lasts, remember?), but implant energy consumption is relatively low, there are recharging stations all over the ship (not so much in later levels), you have batteries and you have a PSI ability specifically suited for players with high energy consumption.

Overhead swing is useful, as is the melee damage upgrade (and Sharpshooter, if you use guns a lot). 20% savings on hypos is decent, but I don't remember if it also applies to PSI hypos. If not, it's pretty useless as there are usually enough healing items scattered around and you have two PSI healing abilities at your disposal. 20% price reduction is completely useless if you don't opt for a PSI-only run and toxin or rad damage are neglible.

I would suggest taking the +20% hypo effect upgrade now, and the 20% replicator discount as your next upgrade. (Pharmo Friendly and Replicator Expert, I believe.) Not to disrespect melee attacks, but I think you should start developing your ability to kill things at a distance, and for a psi user that means making sure you get the most possible out of your psi hypos and nanites. You should still be using melee against weak enemies like hybrids, but you don't need to get an upgrade in order to clobber hybrids. (If you do decide to take a melee upgrade, I would recommend Lethal Weapon over Smasher.)

The "two implants at once" upgrade is pretty good, in my opinion, although I wouldn't usually pick it early on. Basically a free +1 to a stat of your choice. If you're worried about your implants running out of power, either keep a spare set around or learn the psi power that recharges objects (I think it's the Tier 3 "Electron Cascade".)
Thanks, all. I did decide to use the Overhead whatsit melee damage upgrade as I am still at the stage where clobbering even those creepy mothers is my best option; leap in, bash away. Distance PSI attacks work well on bots but on those nasty mothers, not so much, at least not yet. I'm up to level 4 PSI now, so I should be getting some decent power soon. I'm actually having difficulty getting enough healing and psi hypos, which is a function of being new to the game. I've made it to the 4th level and am in a spot of trouble, not having enough of anything to steer clear of the Assassins.
