tl;dr:
It looks like TenCent has bought the rights to the System Shock Remake we've all been waiting for. They at least do own the web domains for System Shock 3, and 4, as of April 13th, according to their profile on DomainTools.

The devs have still been looking for publishers (as Starbreeze pulled back out in 2017) to take on the project last year, so...
1) Hooray, they found a new publisher, the game will be supported financially... but...
2) Yaaay, it will be tied to an Epic Exclusive (period?), because of course it will be...

At least that's what can be assumed will happen, knowing TenCent's track record...
RIP for us, I guess

Making them epic exclusive is far from the worst things tencent could do to the system shock games.
it's just SS3 publishing rights, if I understand correctly (might be dev rights as well, or rather, choosing the team that will develop the game).

but they definitely do not own the ip, or System Shock Remake (the kickstarter thing that is currently being developed by NDS themselves), so calm down.

I have to agree that this isn't great news for all those hyped up for SS3 though..

Tencent owns the publishing rights to SS3, nightdive owns the rights to system shock. Tencent has nothing to do with with the remake. If where lucky they will allow otherside entertainment full and free creative control of SS3.

Otherside released the teaser in Hope's of getting a publisher but they weren't able to find one hence the hiatus on the project but now that we have one hopefully we can see something good come out of it.

But as mentioned earlier Epic exclusive deal isnt the worst, sometimes you have to lay with the enemy. Epic exclusive is just another means to finance a project and honestly just starting off it's a good deal as your bottom line isnt cut as badly from sales if you went with steam.
