yes it is a rumor i could not find a better blog post about it. but i read some leaked emails from Bethesda from a neogaf therd and in that email it said they are rebooting prey 2 to be a spiritual sequel to system shock 2 if i read it correct

Arkane were supposedly and briefly making an actual System Shock 3 for EA, back when EA re-registered the trademark.

Bioshock is supposed to be the spiritual successor already.

really always heard they just pitched doing Ultima Underworld 3 to EA which became Arx Fatalis, never heard anything about them working with EA on SS3

I'm pretty sure every gamer with a pulse already knew that. Also that BioShock turned out to be not very much like System Shock at all.

It was project, supposedly. It was not by any means confirmed to be ss3 though as there was very little info available, there was some concept art strongly reminiscent of SHODAN referring to it as [url=http://s.scieux.free.fr/]Rebirth Engine (note: the person who made the Rebirth AI replacement mod works at Arkane) for example and some hints from people who should know that system shock was a good guess. Then it got cancelled a couple of weeks later, per the first link.
