I get sound on the intro, but no video. I've tried literally every solution listed on the Discussions board. I can't change the Graphic Mode through the setup utility because when I go to save those settings or launch the game with the settings, it says that the game is not installed. I've tried both a browser download/install and the GOG.com Downloader download/install, and I ran everything as an administrator. I am truly stuck.

I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. HELP.

Did you try reinstall it with "Run as administrator..." option?
I remember that this was a solution to all Syndicate problems.
If that wont work please send email to Support

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I tried that and it didn't work. I just did again just in case, and the intro/game still has no video. I will e-mail support and post the solution I eventually get here in this thread for other people to see. Thank you.
I'm having the same or similar issue. I can hear audio, no video. If I minimize it and restore it a few times, I can get it to run windowed. I have tried to install and run as administrator. I cannot change the graphic settings because it tells me the game is not installed no matter where I have it installed. Running it in different compatibility modes gives me the same result.
Win764
I'm also having problems.

When I run it I get sound (although I get a couple of clicks right at the beginning that sound like they oughtn't be there) and no video, just a black screen.

I get the same "game is not installed" if I try and use the setup manager to change resolution or run the game.

Windows 7 Pro (confusingly version 6.1; Build 7601; SP1), 32-bit I think, under VMWare 4.1.1

Game was installed as administrator and i've also tried running it as administrator and noticed no difference.

I found that when I try to change video settings from the icon in the Syndicate install folder, I get the "game not installed" error, but the video settings configurator works fine when using it from the start menu. I'm using XP though so YMMV.
I had the same "Game not installed" error. I got around it by opening the dosboxSyndicate.conf (located in the game's install folder) in Notepad and editing the settings manually.

Resolution settings are right at the top. These are the settings I'm content with. Feel free to experiment.

fullscreen=true
fulldouble=true
fullresolution=1920x1080
windowresolution=1024x768
output=ddraw
sensitivity=100 I think this is mouse sensitivity. Haven't fiddled with it to see.

A little lower you'll find the render section with the following:

aspect=false
scaler=hq2x

Edit: Using Windows 7 64-bit

I just tried to do this and I couldn't save the .conf file because I didn't have permission or something. Frankly, I'm a little happy (bittersweetly) that I'm not the only one with these issues.

BUT, I have good/weird news. I got it to work. I uninstalled and deleted everything ever, including the GOG.com downloader, rebooted, used CCleaner, redownloaded the game through browser, installed as Administrator, ran as Administrator... No video still. But THEN, I Alt+Tab'd out of the game to close it, and I clicked on the game in my taskbar to see what would happen and it popped up windowed with sound AND video!

I WIIIIIIIIN!

I don't mind windowed at all, so I'm okay for now. Maybe if the above post doesn't help you guys having problems, you can do what I did and see if you can edit the Graphic settings to get the game the way that fits your preference. Thanks for all the help and support, guys.
"Refreshing" the screen by switching to windowed mode and back again looks like a good workaround, however all those issues you're describing with file access permissions suggest that
a) your Windows user account doesn't have Administrator privileges,
b) your User Account Control (UAC) is enabled and giving you a hard time.

Could you check this on your end? Ideally your account shoudl have Admin privileges and UAC should be off.
I agree, the ALT-Tab strategy is a good workaround if you experience some issues. It happend to me a few times now.
I can run the game in Full-Screen

My way i did it:
1. Output is ddraw
2. You can change the memusage i did it to 64
3. Kept the fullscreenres original also tried custom res works as well

Run the game in admin mode for win 7 users. And it worked for me. The screen will say not enough memory but it will go past it.

P.S. Want to make the game run even better get the latest SVN build of DOSBox from www.emucr.com you will need to download libpng12.dll from www.dll-files.com. It fixes the mouse movement slowness.
oh and make sure to select properties on the dosboxsyndicate.conf and edit the privileges for the file. Then you can save over the file without saying you can't

I also got "game not installed" message in setup. This helped (Win 7 64), now game looks fine, thank you

I've tried editing the .conf file to get it to run full screen, but it says I'm not authorised to edit it. Does anyone know how to get around this?

I installed the game and run it in admin mode.

I'm guessing you've installed it into Program Files and you are using Vista or Win7, so DEP is preventing you from editing the file. Either open Notepad by running it as an administrator and then use File Open to get to your conf file (you should be able to edit it then) or you should re-install to a different location, such as C:\Games\.
