I was wondering if anyone prefers playing older games like this in a window, than in fullscreen?

I personally player older games that don't support higher resolutions in windowed mode, it just keep the games visuals from getting blown out looking.

Is there any other way to get Syndicate running in windowed mode, besides doing alt+enter? I saw in another thread someone mentioned changing the config file, but it never lets me save the; fullscreen=true to fullscreen=false

Howdy

Saving the full screen mode in the config file works fine for me.. are you updating the dosboxSyndicate file?

I really want to get this game working in a window as I appear to have weird mouse issues in full screen mode, however I can't seem to get it to display in a window big enough to make the game playable no matter what I do.

In the Syndicate directory, open the file "dosboxSyndicate.conf" with notepad. Change the value fullscreen=true to fullscreen=false, then save and exit notepad. It should be as easy as that.

This should let you change the size of the window dosbox uses:
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=1280x960
windowresolution=1280x960
output=opengl

Setting output=overlay should also work. You can also change fullresolution= & windowresolution= to whatever resolution works for you. 1280x960 seemed good for me on a 1920x1080 screen.
Also, changing aspect=false to aspect=true (in the [render] area) seemed to force the game into the 4:3 full screen look, otherwise the game seems to keep a more widescreen look to it.

Hope it helps, and make sure to make a backup of your dosboxSyndicate.conf file before making changes, just to make things easier if you want to go back to the original.
Thank you, Grefrin. That worked perfectly for me.
Excellent thanks Grefrin, that has sorted it.

I didn't put the resolution into both fullresolution and windowresolution, which was where the problem lay.

Thanks man.. I can now enjoy Syndicate!

Thanks a lot for the advice!

I also figured out why I couldn't save the file after making changes to it. I had to give the user account full permission to make changes.

This should let you change the size of the window dosbox uses:
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=1280x960
windowresolution=1280x960
output=opengl
Fantastic, thank you. This not only looks so much better but seems to have addressed the "lack of video" problems I was having with the game.

Matt
Has anyone managed to make it work in full screen, full res with no side black bands?
