I'm not sure what could be happening there, maybe some fles on your install are missing or went corrupt ?
You could try to reinstall. The installer gives you the option to keep your saved games but i'd back them up manually anyway just in case.

I am having problems with re-downloading Syberia. It freezes up after she climbs the ladder and is going up the stairs (after she feeds the birds). When I try to downloaded again I can't figure out how to use the gog downloader after it is downloaded. Help I am frustrated with not knowing how to fix the game!!
