The spiritual successor to SWAT is Doorkickers. Hear me out, I know the game mechanics are too wildly different to make that argument casually, but it really is an AMAZING game that presents a very similar challange.
Doorkickers is all about going in with a sketchy understanding of the situation trying to prepare for all kinds of possible events that may happen once you go through that door or round that corner and so on. It has the same real world premise of "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" that is often the mantra of actual room clearing professionals. It has the team customisation of SWAT 3 and 4 and the random enemy placement that makes the games highly replayable. It has that "If I just replay the level one more time I'll get a perfect run" feel.
Unfortunately, Doorkickers does not let you capture suspects alive. You have to kill them all. There is great joy in being a cop in SWAT 3/4, you're not the executioner. In Doorkickers, you always gear up and tech up to become a more proficient killer, which takes away some from the game's cops and criminals theme.
