GuserPlyer284: THEY NEED TO MAKE SWAT 5 RIGHT NOW. SERIOUSLY, I'M GETTING SO UPSET EVERY YEAR NO SWAT 5 EXISTS.
I was thinking about this yesterday. The Swat games are a very niche market so they can't spend a lot of money on them in the hopes of turning a profit. They tried to dumb down Swat 4 to appeal to a wider audience but I still don't think it made much money. Hence why no Swat 5. Computers have becomes so powerful now that game companies have to spend a lot of money making a properly detailed game world.

Swat 4 still looks pretty crude compared to most AAA games. I assume the budget for Swat 4 was fairly low compared to AAA titles of that time.
The spiritual successor to SWAT is Doorkickers. Hear me out, I know the game mechanics are too wildly different to make that argument casually, but it really is an AMAZING game that presents a very similar challange.

Doorkickers is all about going in with a sketchy understanding of the situation trying to prepare for all kinds of possible events that may happen once you go through that door or round that corner and so on. It has the same real world premise of "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" that is often the mantra of actual room clearing professionals. It has the team customisation of SWAT 3 and 4 and the random enemy placement that makes the games highly replayable. It has that "If I just replay the level one more time I'll get a perfect run" feel.

Unfortunately, Doorkickers does not let you capture suspects alive. You have to kill them all. There is great joy in being a cop in SWAT 3/4, you're not the executioner. In Doorkickers, you always gear up and tech up to become a more proficient killer, which takes away some from the game's cops and criminals theme.
Doorkickers has interested me for awhile once I seen it had mod support, random mission generator and hell creating your own missions but I've never sat down and put any time into playing it, just picked up on a Steam Sale at one point.

I don't really get too much enjoyment out of tactical shooters solo, more into the co-op side of it all, which is promised for Doorkickers 2 last I heard, that is when I will give that franchise a serious shot.
