Hi,

Hopefully someone here might be able to help a brother out.

I just found my old SWAT3:TGOTY CD and popped it in hoping to play it. Unfortunately, after installing it I can't seem to run it or patch it. It crashes (Capture 1&2) before it even loads when I try to run it and it crashes midway through the patch attempt (Capture 3).
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

Any help? Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks!

Capture 3 suggests that your original install might have gone bad but that is just a wild guess.

Have you tried to uninstall the game and then re-install it again?

A lot of people also have trouble on modern versions of Windows with Swat 3's movies believe it or not. The movies can cause Swat 3 to crash as soon as you try to run the game. What I suggest you try is to re-install the game and then apply one of the fixes shown in the link below:

Don't try to patch the game until you can get it running with the movies. If you can get that far then try applying the patch.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately, I already found that prior to posting and have already tried both solution 1 and 2 without success. Same goes for a full reinstall.

Any other suggestions? :/

Thanks!
I also have a physical copy of the game and am having the same error everyone else is getting, the DDERR_Generic. I've tried everything I've seen that works for some people. Replacing the movies with the Xvid versions (I even tried converting them to other codecs but that didn't work either), installing DirectX June 2010, installing CCCP codec pack, switching codec preferences, and probably some other things I can't remember. All of this with every compatibility mode and still getting the error.

Skipping the intro works fine until another video so it does seem to be the videos. I even tried just deleting them or replacing them with blank files so I could maybe just play without them but that also causes the game to crash.

I'm on Win7 64 bit.

Suggestion 1:
I remember reading that some people have problems with with the old CD protection used on games like Swat 3 on modern versions of Windows. Have you tried using a no CD crack? Visit GameCopyWorld or install the Last Resort mod to get the no cd version.

Of course buying the Gog.com version with no DRM is the best choice ;)

Suggestion 2:
Make sure your game isn't installed in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" or the "C:\Program Files" folder since Windows 7/8/10 seems very protective of this folder.

Suggestion 3:
I am wondering if some people are have strange permissions issues. Perhaps try giving Swat 3 admin privileges?

Suggestion 4:
If you have the game installed on another directory (for example D: or E: drive) try installing to C: drive but remember Suggestion #2, lol.

Thanks again for the reply.

I already tried 2&3 prior to posting. I'll try 1&4 when I get a chance since I do actually have it installed on my secondary drive.

Will update after I try. Thanks!
Sadly I am not too confident switching drives will fix your issue but what the hell, it won't hurt.
