I cant seem to create a custom character at the start of this game and only get choice of 3 premade characters. Is this correct. Is there a option I am missing?

There is no way to create custom characters. There are over 60 premade characters, and the mechanic is that upon death, you go to the underworld and then resurface as a new premade character from the pool.
