Quick info for anyone who runs into the same problem:
Problem: You hear music but no sound effect during gameplay. Cinematics are fine, but in-game there are no audible explosions, gun shots or dialog.
Cause: Supreme Commander can only play sound effect in Stereo, but picked a audio playback device that is configured for surround sound.
Solution:
1. Open the Control Panel (in Windows 10, open Start and type in "Control Panel")
2. Go to Hardware & Sound > Sound
3. Disable all playback devices, but you primary speakers/headphones
4. Select the single active playback device > Configure
5. Choose "Stereo" > Next > Next >Finish
Hope that saves you some headache.
@GOG-Team: Would be awesome if you could add this info to the game's support page.
